Ideas for Employee Appreciation Day 2022

  1. Connect with food

    • Food is a universal language and brings people together. If your office is hybrid, consider extending an invite for remote workers to come into the office for food and some socializing.

    • Pro tip: Don’t forget vegan-friendly options. #inclusion

  2. LinkedIn endorsement

    • Writing a LinkedIn endorsement is a unique and personalized way to acknowledge someone’s work or skills. This shows your individual contributors that you not only value them but their future, even outside of your company.

  3. Gift card

    • Everyone loves a gift card, consider giving some options so people can select where they would like to spend it.

  4. Gift ideas

    • If you’re looking to gift a tangible item, give something personal and useful like a notebook or book. You can take a step further and write a personal inscription on the first page.

  5. Give the gift of your time.

    • Picking up the tab is great but being present is priceless.

  6. Activity / Games

    • Plan some fun activities/games for people to take their hands off the mouse and get their heads in the game. Break into teams and get some friendly competition going.

  7. Field trip

    • Give your employees time for a change in scenery. Whether you take a walk around the building with your team or go somewhere together, get your team out of the office. If your team is remote, give them some free time and encourage them to meet you or venture outside themselves.

  8. Donate

    • Giving to charities, that your employees support, shows that you care about what they value. Donate in their name or consider matching their contribution.

  9. Send mail

    • Send a handwritten thank-you note to your individual contributors, an oldie and a goodie.

  10. Recognition

    • Meaningful employee recognition goes a long way. If you’re looking for something more creative, take a page out of Michael Scott’s book and hold your own version of the Dundies with personalized awards. Offer specific recognition to highlight the unique efforts of your individual contributors.

  11. Volunteer

    • Working with your team for a meaningful cause is a great way to bring the team together and have a change in scenery while doing some good in the world.

  12. Happy hour

    • Following your company policies, of course, consider a happy hour to socialize your team.

    • Whether it’s cocktails or mocktails, get your team together for a quality social hour. Remote? No problem. Get your team on a zoom call.

    • Pro tip: If you decide to go the traditional alcohol route, make sure to provide alcohol alternatives.

  13. Take pictures

    • It’s important to not only create meaningful experiences but to document them as well. Capture memories and send them out to the team.

  14. Say thank you

    • A simple ‘thank you,’ never goes out of style.

Employee Appreciation Day is all about action that tells your individual contributors, ‘I see you and I value you.” Get creative. What matters is that you take meaningful action.
